Hi all! I was looking for figures on the number of bars per capita in different European countries, but couldn't find anything other than that fact that there are lots of bars in Cyprus and Spain. Also whether the numbers are up or down over the last few years. Does anyone know if such figures are available? I'd imagine…

Hi all!

I was looking for figures on the number of bars per capita in different European countries, but couldn't find anything other than that fact that there are lots of bars in Cyprus and Spain. Also whether the numbers are up or down over the last few years. Does anyone know if such figures are available? I'd imagine there might also be problems defining what a bar is, as they'd be different from one country to the next.

It's not for research purposes, just idle curiosity. And maybe choosing my next holiday destination!

Eurostat have figures for persons employed in the hotel, restaurant and pub trade. http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/cache/ITY_OFFPUB/KS-SF-09-101/EN/KS-SF-09-101-EN.PDF

There might be better stats available if you trawl through their publications.
