Things that go bump in the night

Hey guys. Long time boardsie going unregistered for obvious reasons. So this might be stupid compared to other people's issues on this forum but it's bothering me. It's really embarrassing but I know I fart in my sleep along with other humans, but I'm with this lovely guy the past 5 months and I stay at his apartment around 3 nights a week. I've woken up a few times after farting in my sleep and I know he's awake but I usually act like I'm still asleep. It's happened quite a lot and he's never brought it up and has never acted any different towards me over it, which obviously is ideal because I'm human after all. I've never done it awake in front of him although he has but I'd never make a big deal out of it because it doesn't bother me, but I guess in my head it bothers me that I do it in my sleep. I know it's so stupid but should I maybe bring it up? I dread thinking about him joking about it to me because I'm really shy about those sort of things, should I bring it up somehow in a jokey way?

Apologies if I sound like some sort of princess but i guess I'm just worried that he's gonna stop wanting me sexually over it. An ex once made a comment that I farted so loud in bed it woke him up and I know it's no big deal but it bothered me. It's probably just insecurities or something as I'm quite young (20) but I do worry about it.

    Thanks for reading!

Don't worry about the things you cannot control.

Releasing Gas is a normal part of being human ;)

You post made me smile. I don't fart in front of my boyfriend of 2 years, but I also have woken myself farting at nght. He never says anything, and if they run from you because you fart then they will get an awful land someday !

Don't worry about it though, really. Its noo biggie

OH my goodness. Meet your sister!!

I have been in your exact position. When I got with my BF I was so embarrassed about it. Once we both fell asleep watching a movie in bed, and I farted so loud I woke myself and himself up!
My ex made me feel so paranoid about it. But he was a prick in hindsight. My sister also used to slag me about it, we shared a room when we were younger, and she would always tell people. Paranoid or what!!
I've been with my current boyfriend years now. I used to try to stay awake untill I knew he was sound asleep. If I did fall asleep, and wake myself up with a fart, I'd be mortified and be apologising to him saying sorry. He would just make no deal of it at all, and say your fine go back to sleep.
But reading your post reminded me of how embarrassed I used to be about farting when asleep, and how far I've come. It literally hasn't crossed my mind in a long time.
That is down to my boyfriend being such a lovely sweet person, and making me feel totally comfortable around him. It is normal. You cannot control it.
You will get over feeling conscience about it if your BF is kind and compassionate.

You could examine your diet to see if what you routinely eat makes it likely. There's possibly something you could be eating less of or more of, to see if it helps you not to have such a build up of gas that causes farting when you are at rest. Maybe eating at certain times or taking more exercise may help.

She could examine it...but hello, everyone farts

Maybe its a case that she is keeping all her natural body functions in while awake and they happen while she is asleep. Everyone farts for god sake.

Wow, really?? A poster has made a great suggestion and a constructive one and thy get criticised for it!

OP take the advice of watching your diet..if you're a bit gassier than normal it's down to food. If I eat junk food sugars and certain veg it sets me off. Simple solution.

As for nerves, you're human and so is he, he farts too. He probably finds it funny, if you make it into a big deal then ppl will slag you over t so relax

Is it common that people wake themselves up when they fart? I dont think it is, it sounds unusual, and that it happens alot therefore the op sees it as something she would like to change, ergo suggestions that may help... like mine

Thanks for all the replies guys. My diet is fine, I see a dietician regularly. I wake up sometimes when I fart moreso because I sleep very lightly when I'm in a bed with someone else, it's also usually in the morning, never really in the middle of the night.

Again, thanks so much for all the replies. I'm still a bit embarrassed about it but the replies are definitely making me feel better :)

My girlfriend's farts stink. Seriously, something awful, I find it hard to believe sometimes that it comes out of someone so lovely. And they're some of the best laughs we have, when we can catch our breath. I'm not suggesting you develop our childish sense of humour, but really don't give this another thought, everyone does it.

It would be if you were hyper aware of it. I totally get your point about diet but I think the OP needs to just accept that if she does these things its natural and not to worry
