    Hi lads,
Hope the mods don't mind me posting this here. Apologies if so.

So for a computer module project, i have recently been designing a website based on displaying GAA stats.

The website is functional at the moment and basically I'm wondering if many people would use it if i made it available online?
The stats cover all teams and players and i tried to make it as interactive as possible. A few screenshots are attached:

Firstly, here is the Team page:
    046ed4f2-2908-44e5-8f27-23b3553aef68_zpscce2049c.png
And with the 2nd tab selected

Next up is the player page:
    1658b9da-2b47-4fb1-b972-12a9879766a6_zps79b2984a.png
    And the 2nd tab:
    4c55b83b-ec42-4986-91b4-01994542e970_zps9645c9bf.png

    Then the match page:
    7af58ed8-b209-44c7-8b26-c7dc3e796a35_zpsfdd13c56.png
And further down the same page:
    Match2_zpsd6eb41fc.png

And lastly the rankings page (info in this image is not up to date but it shows the functionality):
    Rankings2_zpsc43eb62b.png

As i said, any feedback would be great. I have yet to decide if i will release this or not, that will depend on if people would actually use the website or not

Id use it if you have stats on positioning, average and fastest speeds of players, distance traveled, where the points were scored etc. Im not sure if you can do that. Otherwise the rest you have is fine but id only really use it if you have some of what I have mentioned.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.

Things like average speeds, distance traveled cant be accurately calculated without placing GPS tracking equipment on players and would be very hard to implement. Most counties are tracking their players at the moment but the data is being kept private/secret for obvious reasons.

Things like scoring positions can be done and could be relatively easily implemented.

Think site has potential, theres a shortage of gaa stats related websites, esp since gaainfo disappeared a few years back...best of luck with it.

Good idea and a useful site. Where is the data coming from?

Data is coming from a database that i built. At the moment i only have 2014 stats in the database but the aim would be to ultimately add historical data going back as far as possible.

I have already found that getting the full 26 on each panel for each game is quite difficult. Most teams only seem to name the first 15 without any mention of who the subs are. :(

Great idea.A GAA stats website is badly needed.I have intercounty stats for most county football panels.ie player championship appearances/scores.Just a hobby in spare time 😊 Hope it all goes well for you

It's a great idea and you can build on it. You have most of the main stats and eventually other things mentioned here like fastest speeds etc will become available.

Best of luck with it, it's definitely needed. On the 'official' site, Kilkenny still have 32 All-Irelands :o

It is fairly hard to keep up in fairness :pac:

Cheer for all the feedback everyone! :pac:

So it looks like people would use the site so i'm going to go ahead and set it up. I will try to have it up and running within a few weeks.

Initially it will just have 2014 data but i will add historic data too once everything is set up and running smoothly. Would be nice to be able to explore data going back to 70s/80s and see how it compares with today.

Hopefully people will enjoy it anyway :D

Don't know if it's of any use to you but there is a serious chunk of historical data about Kerry teams at the link below. Doesn't seem to have 2014 data so not sure if it's still going but might be of use to for the historic stuff.

I think detailed GAA stats are badly needed, I imagine it's a bit behind some other sports because of the amateur nature.

However, I imagine most of the top counties have very detailed stats available to them, they're all professionally-run outfits at this stage. Just that same data isn't available to the public, might give their opponents even a small bit of leeway.

Stuff like appearances, scores from play, minutes played... that is all pretty basic stuff but is sadly lacking in the public domain. I've been keeping some tabs myself in recent times, but yeah, that kind of resource is valuable.

I would find the distance covered, average position taken up on the field and other, more detailed stats like the number of blocks an individual player makes, the length of the passes he/she makes, the accuracy of those passes... stats like that, incredibly interesting. Maybe some day we'll get those readily available.

People should take a look at the AFL website for the sort of thing that's possible, amazing wealth of stats made freely available to the public there.

Dont Foul is probably the number 1 source of stats for football

I don't think there is anyone doing anything remotely similar in terms of making in-game stats available to the public.

I like the idea and think it would be great to have this type of info available - as others have mentioned there is a scarcity of detail of GAA games out there.

Your main problem will be trying to find records to compile something meaningful. I remember looking up the scoring record of one hurler to see if he would enter into the top 10 scorers - almost impossible to find scores on-line, occasionally there were no reports to be found on a game, on other occasions, different sources (and I mean reputable sources such as national newspapers) would attribute different scores........And that's just scorers - you mentioned that getting the full squad has proven difficult and you are only looking at 2014.

Sorry to be negative but I think that getting historical info will be extremely difficult. Even compiling that quantity of information going forward (are you going to look at the League as well?) will take a lot of work.

Good luck with this in any case!

If you could have a results data base something like the one for soccer on soccerway.com, that would be very handy. I would definitely use the website though and if you want a hand with anything you can drop me a PM, although you seem to be doing fine on your own.

Anybody know what became of the gaainfo.com site, it hasn't be available for guts of a year now. Are there any other similar sites out there?

Seems to be two kinds of separate sites that there is definitely demand for:

    1. Historical results, teams, appearances; and
    2. in dept player analysis such as scoring positions, distance covered etc
