BE license category

My boyfriend has a full B and W license for the past 3 years. He wishes to do the EB category to add towing a large trailer / horsebox / caravan on his license.

We’re a bit confused about the procedure. Some sources are saying that he needs to do a theory test from scratch and some are saying that since he already has a B license, he just has to do the practical.

We cannot see any EB on the theory test anyway. So am I right in assuming that he just has to do the EB practical?

Will he have to sit mandatory 12 lessons or can he just take a crack at the test?

What if he is getting lessons with ISM and has a tip or fender bender, will his insurance suffer if he does it in a school car and would he have to disclose that to Axa and would they up his premium even if It didn’t cost anything to Axa?

    Thanks in advance for replies.

If he hasn't done the theory test before he will have to do it, no mandatory lessons for sitting BE test (I'd recommend a few), don't know about the insurance but I assume ISM have their own policy.

The B, BE and W are the same theory test, so if you sat one before its not needed.

Just go get your learner BE permit and immediately apply for the test. There are no minimum lessons or 6 months wait.

There are some silly rules for the trailer, ie it has to be closed body design, minimum 2.4m cargo area and MUST have 30x 4" blocks in it. Also make sure you use a manual car and that's legally able to tow the weight of the trailer + blocks.

(I did this test 6 months ago)
