Cover letter help

There's a position I would like to apply for. It says you must have an interest in xxx. I genuinely do have an interest but no way of showing it through work experience done on the course I did.

There's a distance learning course available (not for any Joe soaps) that I would love to do, but is quite expensive, I've looked into it before. It ties into the interests in the job being advertised.

Would it be okay to somehow say it in the cover letter that I intend to do this course.
