Commercial or private tax/insurance?

Ok im considering buying a new toyota rav4. I currently have a commercial santa fe. I want to use vehicle for same job. Seats go flat in rav4 but to protect them i want to remove them and put in a flat floor. I also want to put in a protective cage in case of crash, dont want all stuff in back coming forward with speed!

Basically im getting it comercialised but leaving it as a private vehical, ie not changing its state. Tax is €280 on rav4 and much prefer a nct in 4 years than yearly doe.

Years ago tax would of been 700+ and thats why they were commerciallised mainly, now they are cheaper private.

Only reason im getting it done is to protect the seats im not using and for my own safety regards cage/barrier.

Will this have any effect on tax /insurance?

I know i cud just buy a commercial but ive had serious reliability issues with past vehicles and want a toyota now

if you dont plan on notifing changes i cant see tax been a problem but could lead to trouble with the garda if there were any problems
all modifications are supposed to be reported to insurance company, theycould look for a cert to say the work carried out was to a standard.
it might be a idea to ring both motor tax and your insurance company to clarify espically the insuarnce as they all differ

    Ye will do

Main reason is my own safety to be honest. Loose boxes in the back be killers in a crash

I could well be way off here, and totally wrong, but I'm pretty sure when I had my (2004) Rav4, they (Toyota) sold a cage accessory for it. Now, I do believe it went behind the rear seats, but I'm sure a similar accessory must be out there? Something like this:

I don't think the insurance company would care, unless you actually start messing around with the body of it and getting things welded and such? (but I could be wrong!). Even at that, would it not be a case that, if you do end up getting ploughed off the road by an articulated lorry, the insurance company would have to show that your modifications caused the crash or added to the damage, before they can decide that it's reason enough for them not to pay out?

Out from that it's the NCT's job to say whether or not the vehicle is road legal?

If it were me, personally, if the seats fold flat, I'd just buy a sheet of wood from a timber yard and cut that to shape and put it down. Would protect the floor/seats and wouldnt require any messing about with the physical body of the car?

There is no motortax issues, you are just using the vehicle as suits, you will have to replace all removed seats for the NCT in 4 years time. A Rav4 Van is available in the netherlands just to give you an idea what can be done.
