Would this sigma lens be a good lens to ise as a portrait lens??

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0058NYW3K/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1414403054&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

Need something that gets godd facial and head shots without having to be on top off the person.

The nikon 35mm, 50mm are not suitable in this regard.
Just wondering what the above would be like if anybody has experienced using this lens.

Thanks in advance for the help.

No experience with that particular lens. But have you overlooked the 85mm range?
Normally the 85mm focal length is the standard focal length for portraits. The characteristics of the 85mm focal length yealds a very natural perspective for portraiture and allows you to be a comfortable distance away from the subject.
    Just my two cents.

I've seen the 105 used loads for portraits and it looks great.

I'd go for the 85mm, myself - there's a little bit in the price, but the quality of the 85mm 1.4 Sigma has is fantastic. It's tack sharp and also it's very useable at 1.4 too! One of those lenses that you'd wonder how you did without!

Yeah, I was looking at the Sigma 85mm 1.4 as well. Looking at a few you tube videos and reviews online. It's getting great feedback especially from a portrait point of view. It definitely looks an attractive buy.

The Flickr pool for the Sigma 85mm have me convinced - just need to get the funds sorted!

The 105mm does Macro too though, so it could be handy as an all-round Wedding lens: perfect for portraits and fine details (ring shots, etc)

Ok, now cannot make up my mind between these two lens - which one should I go for:-

    Sigma 85mm 1.4

    Nikon 85mm 1.8
    http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/2201/AF-S-NIKKOR-85mm-f%252F1.8G.html

Which is better all round to serve as a portrait lens?
