    Hi
For me I went to my doctor re feeling down and stressed. I wasn't coping with any aspect of my life. She referred me to a psychiatrist within the HSE. The psychiatrist then referred me to a counsellor within the HSE who would best meet my needs. I think this is the best approach as you have a multidisciplinary team looking after you. Also it was free. I feel very comfortable that I have a couple of people involved in my wellbeing at the moment. I have gone to counsellors privately before but I wish that I had made a visit to my doctor years ago. For me it was the best step in my life.

I have just seen you have another thread on here. I trust that my doctor/ psychiatrist/counsellor will not breach any confidentiality rules. However if you worried about this ask your doctor if she/he can refer you to another psychologist. Your mental health is so important. For me I ignored it for far too long and to be honest I feel like I have lost years of my life towards it. Please don't let this happen to you.

    Mod Note:

    Hi cherrychau,

sorry, but as per the forum charter, we don't give recommendations, nor do we allow other posters to do so - you should choose a counsellor based on how well YOU get on with them not how well someone else does.

However, the Psychology forum has an excellent sticky thread on How to find a Counsellor/Therapist/Psychologist which can be found here.

    Thread closed.
