Near miss. Should I bother reporting?

Had a near miss morning Car drifted into the bike lane on top of me nearly killed me.

Doesn't usually bother me, but was a young learner driver on there own. Of course they may have passed their test and the plates could belong to somebody else, but I don't think so.

Should I bother reporting? The fact that it was a potential unaccompanied learner bugs me. I got the reg and description of the driver.

Report it. It could save another road user from injury or worse.

Report it. The fact that they were driving unaccompanied makes it easier for the Guards to intervene.

When its your word against a drivers it can be hard to get action. When its your word against a driver who also has some other issue ( tax is expired - brake lights arent working etc) it can be easier to get action.

Make a note of the name of whatever Guard you talk to.

I reported a guy for nearly pushing me off the road into the ditch. Rang the road watch number and went into my local station. They discussed my options with me and in the end I went with the option of letting them having a chat with the guy to warn him. If he had a bad attitude about it they said he could be taken to court for dangerous overtaking if I wanted. The guy said he was sorry and would be more careful in future. I was happy with that and left it there.

I tried to report a small lorry that came out of a side road and almost hit me - I slammed on the breaks and a van that was behind me rammed into me. This happened in slane and I phoned drogheda Garda who weren't too concerned and told me it's navans problem - I phoned navan and they said they'd ring me back after tasking some detail but didn't ask very much and didn't sound as if they gave a sh1t - and they never phoned me back

Nobody was injured and thanks to my tow bar had only a small scratch but I was peed off over the driver of the lorry who just drove off after causing an accident

I hope u have better luck if u decide to report and safe cycling

Get a camera for your bike.

2 identical incidents happened to me on a dangerous stretch of road. First report was ignored. Second report I had on video and gave DVD to the gardai. They rang up the guy and gave me options if I'd like to pursue further.
