Bit of a long shot here but looking for a cheap but solid bike for my auld boy.

He's fairly over weight and I'm looking to get him a bike for some exercise. Looking for something close to a hybrid/mountain bike, can't be aggressive in geometry. He wont be doing long spins or anything.

Don't have much of a budget unfortunately.

    Thanks in advance

    What is the budget?

Most bikes are built to withstand up to 135kg, problem is normally the wheels so the more spokes the better is the typical rule depending on the weight of the rider .

I have a nice Kelly's hybrid that I am soon to sell. Was my starter bike when I was well north of 130kg

    thanks for the tip.

budget will be very low unfortunately, but keep me posted on what you are thinking when you are going to sell. thanks

should have mentioned, he is 6ft too . reckon weight would be in the 125 to 135 range

A racer would be too much strain on him to lean forward. It would need to be a very relaxed geometry.

    Cheers folks

Have a look for a secondhand Trek 7.2 or one of the other 7.1/3/4 series. I had one when I started out and it was a fine strong maching.

Op where are you based? I have a trek hybrid only 4 months old that I am thinking of selling as I want a road bike.

Hadn't really thought tbh. Paid around 500 new for it.
I am in cork anyway so probably wouldn't suit.

A lot of bikes on adverts around Dublin area. Should definitely pick something up cheap.
