Hi! I have decided to install a free to air system & want a combo box with saorview & uk channels, reliable, best in class with options to upgrade the channels in the future.

I am only learning about this technology....

Would the Amiko Alien 2 be one of the best combo boxes?
I am hoping i can do a basic setup & maybe do more things in the future as i learn about Enigma etc...

    Appreciate your feedback!

There are probably better boxes like the VU Duo + or gigablue quad
But you are talking about serious cash
I have the alien 2 triple and I did my homework before giving up sky
This really is a great box for the price there is also a halloween offer on at the moment from tvtrade

vu duo is twin sat only unless you mean duo2 with swappable tuners.

The Alien 2 is a great box and with the current deal off TVtrade its a steal.
There is no other Enigma 2 triple tuner under 260 euro (Technomate TM-Nano-3T)

There are a few twin tuners ,one sat tuner and one terrestrial tuner.
The Gigablue HD 800 UE Plus ~180 euro delivered
The Gigablue HD 800 SE Plus ~215 euro delivered
The Xpeed LX2 ~180 euro delivered.

There is also the Ibox 3 which is a clone of the Xpeed LX2 which is ~110 euro but as its a clone it could have issues .

The Gigablue and Xpeed receivers have Mips based processors so they can run more plugins and are easier to configure.
For 125 euro though the Alien 2 is a beast of a receiver ,by far the best bang per buck triple tuner on the market.

    Good morning!
Thanks a mi for your responses.. Appreciate it..
I think i'll go for this box..
I just hope the guy installing it can do a basic set up & maybe i can learn about the customisable features over time..

The guy installing it is going to check trade prices for the Alien & get back to me..
He normally installs Walker boxes.. I imagine the equivalent Walker box is more expensive?!

    Thanks again!

Easiest thing to do is download a backup of another system
    heres mine https://www.dropbox.com/s/adg8ivyayz30l7r/Hyper4%20backup%2011-10-14.7z?dl=0

Or any of the other lads on here

Extract to a folder called back_of_e2 put it on a usb key
run the plugin e2upgrade from spark

Champonic took the time to do a guide here

Forgive my complete ignorance but I bought it on the present deal and it comes with enigma 2 pre loaded which I wanted for the 7 day epg. Is there any need / what are benefits of doing what you proposed?

On the tvtrade website they used to charge extra to install enigma2
when I got my box it was just the default spark operating system and I had to put enigma 2 on it myself

Also there are different flavours of enigma2
there is the one im using Hyperion4
    There is openATV
    There is openARP
    also a version of vix

As yours already has enigma2 on it you have nothing to do but sit back and watch :-) unless you wanted to try a different version of e2
but I would make a backup of your current image first
