Cleaned my bike with the green side of the pad last night, how much to recoat?

I stripped my bike down last night and got really ambitious about cleaning every bit of grime from my frame. Now that I can see it in the daylight it looks a bit dull and I'm thinking I scraped some of the top clear coating off.

Has anyone had to repaint or recoat their bike? Any recommendations or suggestions on cost?

It was the first time and the last time I use the back of the pad. Normally I use degreaser and let it sit but I was cleaning in my bedroom and didn't want to breathe in a bunch of chemicals. ...lesson learnt.

    Furniture polish?
Not a recommendation, just wondering if applicable here (can't do much harm anyway).

I feel your pain. FWIW, try baby wipes in future.

Muc off. I'm a converted man since first using it.

Spray on leave for a few mins then soapy water and all the ****e just slides off.

I think you've just dulled the clear coat you can get buffing compounds for cars that'll bring back the lustre. I'm not sure if it has the same effect on a bike but if it's an alluminium frame I'd give it a go. If it's carbon then I suspect enough damage has been done and lesson learned.

My guess is you have scuffed the top surface of the clearcoat. Unlikley you have removed it as it is quite deep.

Go to car accessory shop and get some good quality car wax. Follow instructions and use plenty of elbow grease when buffing. Repeat from time to time and you should be OK.

If it is really bad talk to car spray professional for advice. They may suggest a more intensive type of buffing i.e. machine.

You just have to polish it out.

car wax will do the job. rather than the generic turtle wax type rubbish you get most places, i'd try and source something like this
    http://www.collinite.com/automotive-wax/insulator-wax/

protects as well as shines, it's what i use on my car and if i was going to wax my bike it's what i would use. it ca be gotten at one of the irish online detailing shops

How much are you selling it for?

The bike's got an aluminium frame, so do you reckon it's a bit overkill? I imagine it's made for carbon fibre.

I might go the car wax route otherwise. Seems sensible enough. The paint's still there, the frame's just dull. I hope I've just scuffed the clear coat.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Another brillo bandit..

As a car painter I see it all the time and most definitely will need a machine polish its not the end of the world happens all the time on cars anyway

I picked up some car wax and the bike looks much better for it now. I can still see some scratches but it's not too bad.

    Thanks for the advice.
