    Hi guys,

As the title says, my current laptop batterry won't hold a charge for more than 20mins, it is rated at 11.1v 3500mAH

I have found a replacement which would seem to fit but it is rated at 10.8v 4000mAH.

Would this be ok or could it have adverse effects?

    Cheers

It will not have any 'adverse' effects on your system, but as it is not rated the same you could find performance such as processor speed and video graphics are not 100%. You can't harm your system with a battery of lower output. Although your replacement will certainly last longer.
I would advise replacing the battery with the recommend type specified by the manufacturer. There is usually a part number on the battery itself.

Thanks for the reply. I dont really like the sound of slower processor speed.

The replacement is a genuine Sony battery but from a different laptop model.

My current battery is a VGP-BPS 22 and the replacement i've found on adverts is VGP-BPS 26

So it's definitely worth going for one with the same voltage?

yes, go for same voltage, they aren't expensive really at between 20 and 35 quid for most batteries.

I used a lower on a laptop once, and had to turn off video card as it couldn't power both and would just die when it tried. It also had trouble with my wifi card, often turning off the card. As it just couldn't power the cpu and everything else.

Now this depends on the power your cpu/other cards need, and you might get away with it, and manage, but really it's best to pick one of the same voltage.

Ok thanks, will keep looking for the right model number in that case.

You won't have any issue using this battery. the voltage is only a nominal description, depending on the number of cells, cell supplier, chemistry, etc.

The capacity is important. Yours is rated at 3500, the new one is 4000mAh. This means the new one can hold more charge, or run time.

You can goto your power settings and turn off CPU throttling, if you are more concerned with speed.

Cheers, i found the correct 11.1v battery on ebay with an even higher capacity of 5200mAH with 6 cells.

Its not an original Sony one but should be well up for the job :)
