Folks, things must be bad when I have 2 problem threads going at the same time! Apart from teh problem with teh over heating pathfinder, I have a 2006 navara with 140,000km. A few weeks ago I was in a fiedl an the 4WD would not engage. Around teh same time but I can be sure they are linked the ABS warning light came on. Can anybody shed some light on this?

I had 2 FWD switches on the gearbox of an 06 Nivara replaced under warranty, it was engaging FWD but the warning light would not go out when you dis-engaged. Your problem is probably electrical. I would be wary of going to a main dealer for a diagnostic. My Nevara started to loose power and even stall a few times, I brought it back to the main dealer, they plugged it into the computer, told me there was some sensor or other faulty, would cost €350 plus fitting plus vat. Told them I'd get back to them. I went to a very good auto electrician and he checked the sensor and said it was ok. He found a short in the wiring was causing the problem, the wiring loom had come loose from a bracket and was tipping off the body. He sorted the whole thing out for €70. That was 4 yrs ago and it never gave a bit of bother since

Thanks, JC. My 4WD is not engaging at all. Dont worry, I dont do main dealers! I will try the switch and see what happens. I can swap with a pathfinder we have.

Might just be a loose wire to a solenoid or a poor connection - contact spray and patience are your best friends.
