...that could send you instantly to any place on the planet, where would you go?

Without putting much thought into it, I'm thinking Kashmir maybe.

Would it be a case of going to one place, then returning or could you exploit it like Star Trek and beam yourself to varying places :)

Well, if you could use it multiple times, then the question is, where would you go first. You can return whenever you want. So, no travel time, no cost, no visa, no Ryanair, just there in an instant.

What put Kashmir in my mind was the opening chapter of one of Salman Rushdie's novels that was set there. Midnight's Children, I think. I have a mental image of crisp air, mountain peaks over a clear lake, and forest.

Also, the Republic of Keralia, which is a Russian region north of St Petersburg, bordering Finland. Forests, lakes, wooden churches. Tony Soprano's Russian girlfriend was from Petrozavodsk in the programme, and it was described as a horrible industrial city, which got me googling to see where it was.

Well, on that note then I'd opt then for Belarus. Was going there last year, but conversations with my Late Loving Dad and his concern took priority over a visit in Jan 2013. Always a place I'd like to visit and work in though.

Belarus for me, knowing I'd return safely would be a huge issue, obv. Looking forward to reading other replies in here,

    Thanks ,

Belarus and occupied Karelia are easy enough to get to anyway. How about Easter Island?

    On Earth:
    - Buenos Aires for a big steak and wine
    - Chicago for shopping on the Magnificent Mile
    - Whitsunday Islands to sit on a boat and drink beer
    - Circle Quay Sydney for a flat white coffee
    - Orchard Road Singapore for more shopping

But really... Transport beam? Put me in a 2nd hand, but functioning spacesuit and send me to the moon!
