Negative equity

had to sell my home because of a divorce. property in negative equity.met with back official the other day looking for me to pay the shortfall after the property is sold. no money has been paid for eight years should i pay this or take my chance in court since bank left it 8 years without acting.

had to sell my home because of a divorce. property in negative equity.met with back official the other day looking for me to pay the shortfall after the property is sold. no money has been paid for eight years should i pay this or take my chance in court since bank left it 8 years without acting.

If you can pay you'll have to pay, otherwise bankruptcy or some sort of personal insolvency deal.

The bank presumably have the deeds of the house which means that they will dictate the terms of the sale. From what you're saying, you don't have an asset to sell.

You ask if you should 'take my chance in court' - for what purpose and to achieve specifically what?

You need legal and financial advice and you can't get either of those on this forum.
