Back Pain after squatting

    Hi,

I've been making progress with my squats and recently I squatted 110kg @ 66kg.

It felt fine and I managed to get down to parallel.

However, I've noticed recently that after squatting that I get some muscular pain in my lower back. Google seems to state that this is because my back is not straight - i.e. I'm bending forward too much.

I got a guy at the gym to video me squatting and when I mentioned that I was checking my technique he volunteered that I was leaning too far forward and putting additional stress on my lower back.

Some quick googling seems to indicate that a pair of weightliting shoes would partially help this issue - currently I squat in a pair of converse type trainers (gym does not permit non wearing of footwear).

So, should I splurge out on a pair of weightlifting shoes and if so, is there a cheapish brand that would suit. My understanding that the heel can vary from 0.5" to 1" in these shoes. How do I tell which is the best option for me.

Additionally, what can I do technique-wise to improve and avoid injury?

    Thanks.

Fix the issues that are forcing you to lose position - start with ankle mobility and work your way up.
