My hair is naturally medium brown and I've been highlighting it for years and years and so now it's very blonde. I want it dark blonde now and cannot afford the hairdresser at the moment because I've a huge vet bill. Anyway off to boots I go today to get a colour. Would I be right in thinking a warm dark blonde would look better than cool tones? Cool would turn it a bad colour right? Semi permanent would this be better? Was looking at the casting ones. Any advice would be great thanks

I always go with cool tones when using blondes cause i find any of the warm ones just end up looking brassy.
I'd go with semi permanent tbh because at least if you don't like it or its too dark it'll fade quicker. I have also learned that when going darker don't pick the shade of dark colour you want, go a shade lighter than you think you want. Generally it ends up being a lot darker than you expected.

Also, the colour you posted in another thread, the kind of dark honey blonde colour, there is an ash blonde by clairol in semi permanent that is similar to this colour, might be a bit cooler/more ash toned than the photo you posted though.

Would ash blonde over highlights not go green though?

Hmm maybe, hard to know. I never went green from ash dyes but I bleached all over (over dyed red) and then toned it and then re bleached certain sections a while later and then put on ash over it. Not the best way to do it but worked!
I suppose if you go for something warm toned you could use a silver shampoo to prevent it getting brassy.

I ended up buying casting Creme gloss in iced latte. It's a good bit darker than the one mentioned above. But it's semi permanent so it will fade after washes. Here goes! Gonna do it this evening when kids settled.

I actually looked at that one a few times but decided against it and went for a cool dark blonde instead, its a lovely colour though, hopefully it works out well for you
