No cold water in kitchen sink tap when emersion is hot

Can't figure this out at all. We have a triflow tap in our kitchen. the cold water flow is poor at the best of times. But when someone puts on the emersion for a shower/bath it stops the flow of any water form the kitchen(only) cold tap?

I cant even fill the kettle now for a cup of tea until the emersion upstairs goes cold?

Just clarify:

• You live in a house with the kitchen on the ground floor?
• Cold tap is fed from the mains?

2 storey semi-detached house. the outside tap directly the other side of the wall flows like mad. I assume the kitchen one is running off the mains? or has the plumber done a botch job?

One the things getting a water meter did was give us a brand new plastic stop cock, just by the meter.

If you have this, then:

• Wait for the flow to return to normal
• Turn off the water at the mains
• The water should stop by the time you're back inside
• If not its coming from the tank and I'm afraid who knows?

thanks. will try that later. It's a triflow mixer tap. so when the immersion is on the hot water will be in the hot tap in the kitchen which works but the cold tap with the impact of the hot water in the immersion seems to block any outflow of the cold tap. swelling? washer?

Maybe - I'm not a plumber or anything approaching - the odd job I do, if not the father-in-law, if not cousin Michael the plumber

If the immersion on though in order to have any effect on the kitchen tap, you'd have to run hot water first before you saw any effect on the cold?

There's 3 supplies: Cold, Cold filtered, Hot pipes into this tap ?

have you replaced filters recently?

Filters might be due a change alright. But should this only affect the filtered cold tap? the flow from the ordinary cold tap is very low and goes down to nil when immersion is hot for some reason.
