UK logbook in fathers name

My dad bought me a car in the UK from a dealer (my money, my name on the receipt). Dad got the logbook today but it's in his name even though he told the dealer to put my name on it. Can I still go through the VRT process? Or do I have to get the logbook in my name?

    Thanks!

If you're paying vrt then it makes no difference at all.

Normally your name wouldn't go on at all.

Presumably your father has a UK address and the V5 is now in his name ???

Seeing as you can't get an Irish address put on a UK V5 (logbook).

If this is the case you will need a receipt from your father (showing that you purchased the car from him) and usually a Ferry receipt.

I have a receipt from the garage in my name...will this do? And a ferry receipt? Is that to prove when it came into the country?

    Yes, should do.

    I don't get it.

People get so worked up about ferry receipts, however if it has a NI address one doesn't need a ferry receipt. Last time I checked there was no ferry between the south and the north. So when people say a UK car I don't know why they automatically assume you need a ferry receipt.

You could always ask the OP where the car in this case was purchased .
Seeing as this thread is about his concerns.

    Betcha it's the UK mainland.;)

Yup, UK mainland. England to be specific. I'll let you know if the ferry receipt was required 😊

Just to be clear on this.
(a)Your father has a UK address and had the car transferred into his name ?
(b)You have an Irish address and want to VRT the car here ?

If (a) isn't correct then what address is on the V5 now ?
