    Hi,

Looking at buying a VW Passat 2 TDI 140bhp, fully serviced, looks and runs perfect - but used to be a taxi so high milage - 218000 miles.

    The price is right!

    is it worth chancing it?!

What is the life span of these engines?

    What year is it?
Are you planning to sell on in future or is this a keeper?
How has it driven (assuming you've test driven it)
    FSH?

How much cheaper is it than a similar car with half the miles?

I would not touch one of these Passats. Too many problems with injectors and brake calipers.

    What would you buy instead?

Well I only know that I had one of these cars before and had endless problems.

2008. Would keep it for 3 or 4 years. Drives good . About 2k cheaper than same car with half milage

    A suitably evasive answer :pac:

Only €2k cheaper than one with half the mileage that wasn't a taxi?

    Not cheap enough so...

I wonder why the taxi driver got rid of it?

Why ?? Does it make a difference if it was a taxi or not ? will I need to re register it or what ?

Think of it this way. Let's say you go and look at 2 similar cars. Same year, mileage, spec etc. However one was a taxi and one wasn't. Which is worth more?

    Wouldn't touch an ex taxi...

218 thousand miles not huge mileage for a taxi going on 7 years old. If you told me it had 418k then you might be closer to the truth.

I have an 02 Passat with just on 200k miles up. One injector is starting to miss, and the clutch (or perhaps the DMF) is starting to drag, The newer models seem to give more problems, however.

Passats of that era are pretty much one of the most unreliable cars you can buy.

    Plasticy creaky interior to boot.
