Heading to Dubai soon - I have ordered 2000 dirhams to get me started but I was wondering what would be the most cost effective way of taking out money over there or would it be wiser to do something else.

Mods feel free to move as didn't know exactly where to put this query

Put your credit card in credit and withdraw money that way.

Is a credit card cheaper than a debit card - will it still be good value for withdrawing money or does the above just apply to purchases?

There's an ATM in the arrivals lounge which is useful for paying for cabs/metro etc and there's ATM's in the big shopping malls. Just to let you know that the hotel may do a hold on your credit card...so it can be useful to have a debit/visa and a credit card.

I recently overpaid my Avant CC by a relatively small amount.

They rang me up and asked withdraw this money because if it was taken from my account by fraud/card stolen they would not reimburse me for the amount that the card was in credit for.

This question depends on what your bank charges you on both its credit card and debit card, you need to know that and then decide. Not all banks are the same.

I already knew it wasn't covered, but i'm also with Avantcard and they did not ring me when I did the same.

Think I'm going to go with taking some dirham and then topping up or CC hopefully the CC will not stop us from doing this - Its Nationwide Visa

Just keep in mind there is maximum amount you can withdraw from an ATM on daily basis, which is usually set much lower for foreign cards and differs in every country. Enjoy the hols.
