Hi, me and my girlfriend are looking for a new challenge. I am currently employed as a structural engineer in Ireland with 5 years experience and my girlfriend as a Solicitor with 3 years experience. We are looking at possible mining jobs or similar on a FIFO basis, we are open to location. Our main aim is to make some good money within a short space of time and to both be employed on the same mine. We are only starting our search and would therefore really appreciate any advice.

What does FIFO mean in this context, please?

I presume it's Fly in, Fly out.

Probably best to make contact with agencies in the relevant countries or direct with the mines themselves.

Coming as a package deal (both of ye together), especially if employed in your respective professions will make it more difficult.

Thanks for the advice smcgiff. My girlfriend is happy to work in administration or something similar and I am equally happy to work in anything providing the money is right.

I think mining is still doing well in Australia. They're usually out in the middle of nowhere, so unlikely to spend any money earned. :)

    Try this...

You might get work but I've never heard of a FIFO solicitor.

I'm fairly certain anything admin related to do with a mine is done from the head office in the city. Maybe cleaner or traffic controller-esque work but will she really be happy with that?

Furthermore it's nearly impossible to get mining in AU now unless you have contacts/a permanent visa.
