I'm in the process of giving Sky the finger & have ordered one of these boxes, a few questions regrading the hard drive for recording.

    (1) Does it have to be external, is there no internal 2.5" enclosure with SATA & power connection ?
    (2) Can the external HD be USB powered only ?
    (3) What format does it record in ?
    (4) What would happen if I copied a few avi's or mkv's onto the same HD, would they be recognised & how would they appear on the planner ?
    (5) NTFS or FAT32 ? I'm only thinking of files >2GB & problems I've had in the past.

Any other advice you can think of.

    Thanks.

    1. It is external only.
    2. I think it has to be separately powered (I haven't tried USB powered).
    3. Not sure of the format but I think spark and Enigma2 use different formats (could be wrong).
    4. No problem with different media files - it has played everything I have given it.
    5. You will need to format it to ext3 or ext4.

Can be powered from the USB ( mine is )
prefered drive is the samsung M3 but at around €50 dont have the cash to get on myself
using an old 60g xbox drive works well if a tad small

Drive should be formatted as ext3
    Recordings have the following format 20141020 2057 - UTV HD - Grantchester.ts.sc
Grantchester was the name of the programme

The hard drive can be USB or separately powered. For best performance the drive should be formatted to the Linux "ext3" system.
The recorded files are in the .TS format which most equipment can play.
I regularly play AVI, MPEG4, TS and FLV (Youtube) format videos without issue. Never tried MKV.
