Where to start if I want to become a counsellor or psychotherapist

    I haven't a clue where to start about how to become a counsellor or psychotherapist, no training what so ever, anyone any ideas how to go about it, courses training colleges things like that would be really helpful thanks

    The course is called "COUNSELLING SKILLS NUI CERTIFICATE"

    It's pricey - €1325!

    The Irish Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy has a list of courses that they accredit on their website: http://iacp.ie/register-of-accredited-courses
    That might be a good place to start.

    I would recommend doing a course that meets IAHIP criteria for accreditation on graduation. There are good courses too that meet IACP requirements. If you have an idea of such a training in mind, then you can find a foundation course that will leave you in a good position to gain entry. Depends on what location works for you.
