San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos (-9.5)
Detroit Lions @ Atlanta Falcons (+3.5)
Seattle Seahawks @ Carolina Panthers (+5.5)
Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals (-0.5)
Miami Dolphins @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+6.5)
St Louis Rams @ Kansas City Chiefs (-7.5)
    New England Patriots (-6.5)
    New York Jets (-3.5)
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5)
Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans (+2.5)
Philadelphia Eagles @ Arizona Cardinals (-2.5)
Oakland Raiders @ Cleveland Browns (-7.5)
Indianapolis Colts @ Pittsburgh Steelers (+3.5)
Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints (-1.5)
    Dallas Cowboys (-9.5)

Said I'd throw up a thread in case anyone else does fancy a pop at it, obviously as I normally bet on the games I tend to be picking based on the spreads and it adds a bit more of a challenge to the picking.

I'm not too sure about spread betting but betting on the chargers @ -9.5 is that getting for the chargers to win by at least 10?

Yeah it's the Chargers +9.5 so they have a 9.5 point headstart at the start of the game or the Broncos start -9.5. So the Broncos have to win by 10 points or more and Chargers have to get within 9 points or less.

The handicap is listed next to the home team.

Sorry if that wasn't clear actually, the line always goes with whoever the home team is, whether they are getting or giving points. So yes, the Broncos are giving the Chargers 9.5 points, where as the Steelers for example are getting 3.5 from the Colts

Good idea, don't post predictions in the regular thread as I'd just be taking the bookies calls. This is more of a jungle, with everyone having a different set of picks.

It is much more fun overall I have found when having tipping/picking competitions elsewhere or with friends. See if it takes off here sure

Thanks, I've placed a few bets giants the spread because of the better odds, takes a bit of getting used too.

This place is getting overrun by betting lately.

To be fair, it's only really this thread and the betting thread (which perhaps should be merged/altered to encompass all facets of NCAA and NFL). As JaMarcus said Jonjo's thread should really be in the gambling log forum but that's up to the mods. I try and not mention it in the main week thread anymore because people were getting pissed off last year - and possibly rightly - about cheering on sides because they had a bet on them over actually having a look at how it would affect their own side (if they have one).

Against the spread picking is pretty harmless, just adds a bit more of a challenge to the weekly picks.

Naturally you don't have to partake if you don't have an interest in it, and if it has no place in the forum it will just die away.

Simply thought it might be a bit of extra excitement as opposed to just straight up picking, don't see it as being hugely more of a "betting" thing then the regular thread tbh. All that happens in there before games is people list out what teams they think will win. This one you just list out what teams will win, while also taking the spread into consideration.

The betting thread itself may belong in the gambling forum, but the horse racing forum also has betting threads and no issue, the MMA also I am pretty sure.

Gonna call the Dallas one early. 11-4, terrific start.
