10 minute interview. But it went well? Confused

I had an interview in Galway on Tuesday. It went very well bar a couple of things.

It only lasted 12 minutes max, and I forgot to shake the hand of the HR person at the end who walked me out.

But everything else went perfectly, I got on really well with the 2 people who interviewed me, and had more than the qualifications to meet the role.

They said they are interviewing today and tomorrow and will let me know by start of next week.

Should I just assume now I didn't get the job or there is still a little hope? Thanks in advance

Either they really liked you, or on the opposite end, disliked you from the start.

Kinda depends what you were interviewing for...

    McDonald's or senior astrophysics professor?

Sounds ok to me. If they're interviewing over a couple of days then they probably only have 10-15 mins allocated to each person.

Really depends on the job though and how many posts are on offer. If it was a high-tech or 'advanced' post I'd expect a bit longer but if it's a general operative type job then that would be fairly standard.

Thanks, it was for an entry position but they are only hiring one person.

I would be really surprised if I got it tbh! Hate interviews that don't go well

Completely depends and impossible to guess. This could be the way they interview. I know the company I work for do very short interviews but then people tend not to last as the interview process obviously isn't very good.

    What industry is it for?

Agree with the others. We need more information before we can give you a proper response.

The entry position is for what? Sales? Software engineering?

If you are pretty and charming they would know immediately if you're suitable for a sales role. However if it was an engineering role I would assume you are not getting the job.

It wasn't any of the above it was in the for an admin role. I had more than the experience and qualifications for the role.

It's anyone's guess really. My feeling from my own experiences is that 15 minutes should be the absolute minimum though. I have had interviews last from 15 to 40 minutes and have been unsuccessful in every one so its really hard to say

back when I was in college I had interview for general operator positions for 6 weeks of the summer.
it was just a phone interview less than 10 mins after that 10 mins was told If I could at the factory following morning for 7am the job was mine till I had to go back to college.

my Tesco interview for an other summer was 15 mins and offer the job in the interview.

other interviews about 40 -80 mins but they general had more than sitting in room with the interviewers ( written exams etc, performance based tasks)

That is quite short. It could be that they already have someone for the job or it's a job that only required that amount of time to interview for i.e. a minimum of tasks. Who knows. Try not to stress too much. I know that is easier said than done.

We had to do min. 20 min interviews for competence based interviews for admin roles, otherwise the candidates could come back and say it was not proper and fair, and challenge the process,

All companies are different, but it seems such a short time,

    Fingers crossed though,

Don't accept defeat that easily. I agree it doesn't look good but you don't know that until you officially get a rejection. It is tough but by all means keep applying Im nearing 20 interviews now and getting nowhere.
