Root or not to root

    That is the question

A lot of the Chinese shops give the option to root the phone before you buy it.

To the average user is there any benefit in doing this ?

It seems to invalidate the warranty which seems a draw back.

Are there any other advantages / disadvantages with buying a rooted phone?

You can unroot pretty easily provided the phone still works.

Total control over the phone is nice if you want it, but without real reason rooting is unnecessary

I’ve heard that certain apps such as banking apps may not work if the phone is rooted. Is there any truth to this ?

Yes I know the likes of the UK Barclays app stops working. Ulsterbank works, but unsure about the other Irish banks. Check with a google search I guess.

Wanna root my Crap Sony Xperia phone becuase it won't let me move pre-installed apps from internal memory to phone memory (or was it the other way around??).

Either way, I am out of space for apps due to it.

A friend of mine had one of those early xperia phones, painful.

    Vastly better after installing this

    My Xperia is a E C1505.

So many mods and roots out there.

All I wanna do is delete pre-loaded apps and be able to install apps on ther internal storage and SD card.

Root will do the trick for ya then, simple root and then Link2SD appnwill cover moving apps and uninstalling

can rooting help with battery life if you suspect it's due to a system upgrade rather than anything else such as overuse?
I mean if you suddenly have a huge dip in battery life after an upgrade but your use had remained pretty much the same?!
    Hippie that makes sense! :)

use *HAS* remained the same & *HOPE* this makes sense (hippie? !) lol

no. Unless you flash a new ROM.
Rooting is just unlocking the device so you can customise it to your liking.
Also allows you to back up and restore if you've any problems.

It does void your warranty though.

You can use something like Greernify or Deep Sleep Saver to full effect when you have root though, so you could try help the issue, but as RossieMan said, rooting won't directly help battery life, it's what you do with the root

DS battery saver is actually brilliant. Has made my battery go from 1 day's use to at least 2-3 days depending on usage.

If your phone comes rooted , how simple is it to unroot it ? Would it be an option under the menu of the phone or is it more complex than that.

Install SuperSU, in the setting there is an option to unroot

*Edit* Some phones have an option turn root on or off in the Developer Settings

Rooting won't give you stock android, I think a google might be in order because you don't seen to understand rooting or touchwiz, and its best to not mess with this stuff without a goal in mind, and an idea of what you're doing
