Fiesta starter

Hi, I am trying to remove the starter motor on an 03 fiesta 1.4 duratec engine but access is difficult to say the least in removing the nuts on the starter electrical connections.

There is a silly plastic cover over them, and even though I am using a small rachet, there is not much room to either put it on the nuts, and then to turn it.I managed to undo the battery nut just about, but the dam activating wire is more troublesome. Is there a better way/knack to undoing them?

Is it possible to remove the mounting bolts first, and then tilt the starter to get better access to them or is there not enough slack in the wires for this? cheers.

I managed to get the bugger out, but it fought me all the way.The reason I took it out was to see if I could find the fault of sometimes when the key is turned, it sounds like the pinion is not moving out to engage with the flywheel.

It can happen one time after another and then after I leave it for a few minutes, it works ok.On the bench when I tried it, it moves back and forth no problem, so I dont know.

Sounds a bit sluggish, I'd pull the cap and check the brushes, if they look short, get a new brushbox and clean the armature.
There is a chap in Mayo who sells them on ebay with the username Gold lion auto electrics.
He is fast and cheap for parts for Starters and alternators.

Oh really? .I didn't notice that but a fresh pair of eyes/ears is always good. :D I am thinking maybe if I dropped it into a small specialist that I know to see if he thinks the same or something else, thanks.
