I thought I'd start a thread for all things Movember.

In case anyone doesn't know what Movember is:
Movember (a portmanteau from moustache and "November") is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer and other male cancers, and associated charities.

    I just got this e-mail from Movember.com:
THE GENDER DISPARITY ISSUE NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT

Gender is the strongest and most consistent predictor of health and longevity. Unfortunately, it's not good news for men and boys.

A recent World Health Organization article on men's health states "health outcomes among men and boys continue to be substantially worse than among girls and women, yet this gender-based inequality in health has received little national, regional or global acknowledgement or attention from health policy-makers or health-care providers".

The article states on the whole women are outliving men by an average of almost six years. It also argues that including both men and women in efforts to reduce these gender disparities would improve everyone's health and well-being.

This is exactly why the Movember Foundation focuses on men's health. This is why Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from across the globe become a united voice every Movember, bringing much needed attention to the state of men's health.

We're proud of all that we've achieved but we only have one definition of success - improving awareness levels of key health issues men face during their lives and finding breakthrough solutions that produce tangible improvements in the lives of those dealing with prostate and testicular cancer.

Join us this Movember and help change the face of men's health.

Have never done this myself but would support it fully all the same given the nature of the cause

Hopefully we can see a few posters here give it a lash and potentially post up some pics

Considering getting involved this year. What way does sponsorship and stuff work if anyone has done it before?

I used to have a moustache but since I went Grey, it looks like two big Snots on my lip so had to shave sadly, but good luck to everyone who does do it

I think I might have said it last year, and unfortunately nothing has changed...

It is with a heavy heart that I say this Movember, a month shy of the grand old age of 26, I still can't grow anything even slightly resembling proper facial hair. :pac: :(

Now if you'll excuse me I must spend some time with my rock of shame.

I am shearing off my beard for the first time in 6 and a half years for Movember. I am in fear of what my face looks like underneath and also think I could be the first man ever to get sunburn in November!!
(My beard has not been growing for six and a half years, ive kept it relatively tidy but still quite lumber jack!)

Movember founder: Men can end up 'mentally broken'

Men have become used to growing interesting facial hair during November to raise funds for men's cancers. Now, the organisation behind the moustache-growing challenge is tackling another taboo - mental health.

Like me if you slready happen to have a beard and tash, should I remove it for movember?

I think removing the beard but keeping the tash would more clearly show to others you were participating in Movember, but I'm no expert.

The RULES are everyone starts with a clean shaven face on Nov 1st....but of course the important thing is the charity and awareness, so I dont think too many are going to police it!

The important thing is TALK about mens health and DONATE some cash................and also point and laugh at your horrendously dodgy moustaches!

    Hi everyone!

This year I'm taking part in the Gallery Of Mo initiative which provides donors with moustachioed portraits of themselves or others (motraits) in aid of Movember!

For those who can't take part, here is a service that allows you to participate and get a nice dashing portrait of yourselves! Ladies are of course welcome to don the 'stache!

If any of you are interested, here is the link to my page in which you can send a request forward!

Northern rail here in the UK have their trains adorned with mustaches (same as last year) to raise awareness. I'll see if I can get a photo this evening or tomorrow morning.

Edit: never mind - here's their own statement complete with picture.

    Here's a better picture:

As November winds down this seems like a good point to congratulate and thank everyone who helped raise hugely needed funds and awareness during November.

    Good job guys!

Fair play to all involved. it was my first campaign and i was very surprised by the support and how easy it is to raise a few quid for a great cause. I think it helps when the campaign has an excellent media PR promotion, as everyone is very aware of the whole thing and what its about.
