What kind of jobs are available to people with degrees in agriculture?
    And do they pay well?

You'll get to tell farmers what to do and if you can't manage that you could run for minister for agriculture.

Depends entirely what you make of it.
Overqualified Salesman to CEO of a major company? Interns of on farm I'd reckon gives same level of knowledge(not experience mind) as a very pregressive farmer with 10+ years of experience.

You could get all sorts of jobs, working for some of the big pharma companies, anywhere in agribusiness - the world would be your Oyster.

but best of all, because you have an agricultural degree, you will be forever treated as an *active farmer* - and you'll get all sorts of tax incentives and relief from capital taxes on - for example - income producing woodland in Ireland, even if you happen to live in New York City.

The jobs with a basic degree seem to be technical rep jobs, selling and advising on the use of from minerals to grass seed and working with private advisors on any of the Dept of Ag schemes, mostly doing the form filling on AEOS, SFP and the new farm safety grants.

Many go into farming and teaching (with H.Dip) and lots of other agri-related areas like Macra. With Masters degrees and PHDs, they mostly start in Teagasc and places like BordBia and move on to private industry after building up experience.

It's a very broad based degree so there are many areas to move into but a lot would depend on your elective choices for areas to specialise in.

On starting salaries, i would have no idea as all of my students are well past that stage now but iirc it was average for those starting out with 3rd level qualifications.

I know lots of people who graduated with an ag degree, not one of them is a department inspector.

I think it's more that no one wants to do it. Who in their right mind would wanna be an inspector!? I don't think I would do it for any money, not worth it. Maybe that's just because I come from a farm, might be all right for non farm-raised ag degree holders.
