    Hi all,

Would anyone know of the best place to have a MacBook Pro serviced in the Waterford area? It's a mid 2012 model. It's starting to run a little warm and half the keys are very dark when the backlight is on.

    Thanks in advance...

have you tried wiping the keyboard with a (not very) damp cloth?

Yeah, first thing I did was clean it. I wouldn't say it's broken or anything, just needs a clean under the keys maybe.

I'd say it will have to be that. Didn't know there was a CompuB in Cork, Thanks.

CompuB want €273 just to do the keyboard!! No thanks... I think I'll either live with it or watch a "How Too" and do it myself!

Have been back in contact with CompuB, and I have to be honest, the customer service today has been outstanding. The MBP will be sent out to them for repair on Tuesday after the bank holiday.
Huge thumbs up to Tony. Thanks.

What changed? Or are you still handing over nearly €300 to them ?

I was asked if I wouldn't mind sending in a picture of the keyboard issue, which I did. As it happens, it does look more like failure than dirt. Like maybe a few of the bulbs are gone or something.

Due to my own ignorance, I wasn't aware of the consumer law with regard to repairs etc. They told me it could be repaired FOC under consumer law IF it is a hardware failure, and not something I've done to it. All this was explained to me in a call back today, and the guy was really helpful with all the queries I had. Really couldn't have been nicer. So credit where it's due, they didn't just leave it at me not being happy, they followed up and sorted it out.

The issue with the MBP keyboards is that they are riveted onto the aluminium body, so it's not just a simple keyboard swop - the entire bottom shell and keyboard need to be replaced if I'm not mistaken. Which would easily explain a €273 charge, unfortunately.

Yep, that's pretty much the explanation that I got. I'd be fairly experienced at taking Windows machines apart, but not so much with Macs. Probably better left to the experts! :P
