About a year ago I've been pushed at a moving car beside by a bearded muppet on BMX (!!!) that broke the red light and merged the traffic (me and the car) turning right from Parliament to Dame St.

Somehow I have managed to stay on the bike and promptly pulled the bollix to the ground a few meters down the street. Not too proud of it now (and the pathetic fight / shout match that followed) but I would definitely do it again in the same circumstances.

As wrong as what the BMX guy did was, how did he not see the BMXer on his left? The BMXer looks like he was in front and this guy cut him off (no sign of him hitting the brakes as he claims) and then pulls in and slams on the brakes.

BMXer completely in the wrong but this guy is not much better in terms of situational awareness and basic road craft.

I don't know how he didn't see the BMX rider inside him either but it's not that straightforward.....

The BMX rider seems to have been passed initially by Cam guy, but the BMX guy is certainly ahead of him when he pulls out. One way is to say Cam guy cuts him off, but another is that BMX guy undertakes him, and then pulls out in front of Cam guy.

BMX guy should have his sit bones paddled for the maneouvre.

I would have given him space, cam guy not pulling out looks like a punishment pass for the undertake. I would have held back and called him some inappropriate names, wouldn't have tried squeezing him into a bus or another cyclist. After this he stops mid overtake, slams on his brakes and then pulls in on/in front of the BMXer for some reason. Maybe it is more obvious but it looks like the cam guy is trying to be obnoxious but I have no sound in work so I couldn't tell you if there is a more obvious reason.

Regardless of why BMX rider felt aggrieved, assault is assault, paddling is the way forward.

    I see it this way:

BMX guy undertakes, sees the parked red bus and instead of stopping and waiting for a gap in traffic, overtakes it immediately - forcing the cam guy to swerve slightly to the right.

The cam guy is irritated, holds his line further on. I'd do the same I guess.
I would have given him space, cam guy not pulling out looks like a punishment pass for the undertake.

I would have not expect the bmx guy to do the maneuver at all. I always stop behind the bus in a situation like this.

BMX guy gets left as traffic moves off, makes up ground on the inside and tries to force his way out instead of waiting behind. He is aggrieved that the other cyclist didn't move out instantly (and without looking if traffic coming on his right). BMX cyclist moves up on the outside and being a coward and not wishing a face to face confrontation for the imagined lack of appreciation of his space needs, brings down the other cyclist and races away.

He is not a nice person. A spell in prison for assault would be good. I always console myself with the thought that the BMX rider will not change, he will do this many times, and he will be sorted, perhaps not this year, perhaps not next year, perhaps not on his BMX bicycle, but it is coming.

An assault is all well and good, but is anyone else wondering how the BMX guy caught up with a road bike twice?

That was a nice smooth bit of road for *whispers* commuter racing.

Probably could have caught up with him afterwards too. To *discuss the situation in a calm and rational manner* obviously!

We may have to formalise some informal rules for this new version of no holds barred commuter racing/warfare. First blood drawn wins, swinging a chain at someone should look as casual as if you always cycle swinging a chain, etc.
