HDMI Passthrough on Xbox One

I previously used a HTPC with Windows Media Center for live broadcast TV (via tuner cards) but it's pretty much given up the ghost. Now I'm using an Amiko Alien 2 set-top box capturing freeview satellite channels, which is fine, but I generally switch back to the HTPC to do web browsing, VPN for iPlayer etc., torrents, and in particular, accessing my media on my network (videos, music, photos) via a slick UI.

Switching back and forth between inputs is a pain so I was wondering if the HDMI Passthrough on the Xbox One would be useful enough for my scenario to justify it? If I could then do away with the HTPC and have everything above managed through the Xbox interface, I'd be laughing.

But I've no idea how it works, how well it works, and if the Xbox One can do the other stuff such as Plex, VPN, web browsing etc. Would be great to hear if anyone's got this setup going and how you find it, thanks.

XBox One has a Plex client now, it has IE (without Flash support, similar to iPads). It only has active HDMI pass-through, so you have to have the XBox on in order to view anything from the HDMI In.

It can stream media from DLNA, including MKVs, or handle them from a locally attached HDD.

However, it obviously doesn't have any Torrent clients, so that part would be missing for you.

With regard to VPN, it doesn't natively support anything like that so I'm afraid I cannot help, but Google may be your friend there.
