    Hi folks.

My friend bought broken car (undrivable) - TAXI , he eventually repaired car, and now he wants to put car on his own name (tax is out and logbook with last owners signature holds my friend) . He has to fill out logbook with his own name, address, sign the logbook and send over to shannon .

Car is registered as TAXI , but my friend want to use it for private use, what need to do, to get it off taxi status ?

    Thanks

Just bring the signed Vlc cert to the local tax office and they will sort it there and then and even arrange for the new Vlc to be posted asap

Smithfield is open, used it the other day

Smithfield is now the only remaining tax office in Dublin

If the car was bought new as a taxi is does it not have a vrt rebate.
So when changed over to private does a certain amount of duty have to be paid to revenue.
Similar to putting rear seats in a van and changing its tax class to private.

We've got two in Limerick. And sometimes there can be up to 10 people ahead of you :D:D:D.

Seriously though, only 1 single Motor tax Office for all of Dublin? And then stick it in the city centre...just to help with traffic congestion, etc.

Was going to say that. No VRT on new taxis. Question is whether revenue would want revenue on it's original value or it's current book value base on age.

Well in fairness you should be renewing your tax online. Why should tax payers money be wasted on having a tax office and paying for staff to do a job that should be done online? A service charge for people not using online tax renewal would definitely stop people going to tax offic. The whole excuse of people don't have access to internet etc is pretty irrelevant when nearly 85% of households have internet access and more on their smart phones

Renew your tax by the postal service!

They all pay VRT Colm. There was a few attempts made by the Regulator's office to get a rebate/reduction for wheelchair accessible Taxi's but to date there has been no change

There was definitely some incentive to have WAVs as taxis though wasn't there?

    Would you stop !
They're probably one of the most subsidised services in the country.
Next thing you lot will be suggesting I get my local Bus Eireann driver to swing by the Council Offices and drop in my renewals :)

Apart from the proposals to government with regard to a VRT rebate the only 'incentive' was a relaxation on the 'age rule'. Although I think even that's changed now and brought the WAV's in line with the ordinary PSV's.

***Do you not just have to fill in and send off RF111?
    https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/RF111_en.pdf

Definitely no VRT to be worried about on taxis ( assuming it's Irish registered etc. ) but if it did happen to be a recent WAT that was subject to a grant then part or all of the grant is repayable

EDIT ***After the change of ownership has completed

Apologies. I'd forgotten about this. Assuming they have money left in the Kitty I presume the scheme is still running.
