I will have around thirty 8 month old weanlings going into the shed around the 1st week of December. The shed will be full with the other age groups as well. Last year I gave the same age group Bovipast RSP vaccine, 4 weeks before going in and a week before as a booster. It worked great felt that they actually thrived better than other years as a result. This covers PI3, BRSV and Mannheimia haemolytica serotype A1

This years it will cost around €430 to do the 30 of them with Bovipast RSP.

I know Ripsoval 4 (Injection) is an alternative that covers PI3, BVD, IBR and BRSV and is in around the same price.

What product do you use and why?

Had an outbreak of pnuemonia in freshly weaned calves four years ago and have used Rispoval 3 every year since on the recommendation of my vet. Haven't had any cases since.
It's very important to treat weanlings properly for worms as well as vaccinating IMO.

We use Rispoval intranasal on bought in calves. We had an outbreak of pneumonia in weanlings a couple of weeks ago. Vet took swabs and recommended Rispoval intranasal again.
We have been using it for the last 5 years and had not had any problems with pneumonia until this year.

I use bovipast. I give them 2 shots as calves. Works out at €12.5 for 2 shots.
I give 1 shot of bovillis up the nose as calves and 1 shot n the muscle in late sept. €3 per shot. Most of the work is done as calves as there easier to handle.

Good man. Spring calving I is presume. I've never had pneumonia in spring or summer. Only when the weanlings are in the shed with other stock. They're not packed in but I suppose there's competition for air all the same.
