Strange Laptop Screen Issue

    Hi,

In the last few days the screen on my laptop has started acting up. Whenever I move the laptop a certain way the backlight will flicker or go off. I know it is the backlight as when I shine a light on the screen everything is still there when it goes black and I can still operate the system. I've only had the laptop 2 months so I'm convinced it's just a loose cable somewhere. How would I go about checking if any cables were loose to the LCD/backlight?

It's a Lenovo G510. The screen bezel comes off without any screws so I pulled it off but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. When sitting flat, the screen issue seems to occur when laptop is raised on the right side or pushed down on the left side. It also seems lines are randomly coming up across the screen so I'm not sure if it's the backlight that's the issue.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

sounds like the LCD is failing in General I wouldn't void your warranty checking it outside yourself but, if you wanted to after you removed the front bezel there will be a few screws holding the LCD to the back panel, remove those and you can remove it from back panel and check the cable on the back of the LCD, tho it could be the connection to the motherboard and not into the LCD at all

I see, didn't really want to hear this. If I have to send it away I'm gonna be without a laptop for college, which isn't an option (computer science).

I won't open it so, not worth voiding the warranty if it really is something serious.

Try running the lenovo diagnostics, as far as I can rememeber they don't have on board diags, and you have to download it from their website, then run it,

Might give you a better idea of what's failing and at least you can go back and say you've done that and found the problem.

Thanks, ran the comprehensive test but it came up all clear. Any idea how long Lenovo usually take for repairs?

I'm not sure how long their turn around is, but they're helpdesk is pretty decent to deal with they're based in Manilla AFAIK.

Thanks, I'll give them a ring. I'm guessing I should back up my HDD before sending it away. Also, I put 4GB of RAM in a while back, this won't interfere with the warranty will it? I checked on the lenovo site, I'm covered until May 2015 with the Lenovo warranty so no worries there.

I have been reading some negative reviews about lenovo repairs online, such as laptops coming back still with problems. Anybody ever dealt with them for repairs?
