I'm applying for jobseekers allowance, basically because i have no choice, i have tons of experience and i've applied for loads of jobs but still can't get anything , it's starting to get frustrating the past few months because jobs i'd be perfect for i haven't even been called for an interview. Anyway i'm filling out this form and it says "Do you or your spouse/civil partner/cohabitant have any cash on hand?" , do they actually mean do you have any money in your wallet right now? are they serious?.... only in ireland.

No they mean any savings in a deposit account, credit union the first 20k is exempt from means and anything above that is taken as means.

You'd be surprised how much some people keep in cash. The question has to be asked because if it isn't its a potential get out clause if the truth was later to unfold.

The 20k stated above is correct but like I say the question has to be asked.
