    With the release of new models Apple have some refurbished mini's and I Pad 2 and 3 models in the refurb store. The I Pad 3 wifi is 279 and the I pad 2 is 269e. All with Apple warranty and free postage. Course they may get cheaper but right now they have stock and choice. This is info only and my only Apple is a gen 2 I Pod. Good luck.

    I was going to buy one of thesse refurbished iPads but I ended up getting a Samsung Tab S 8.4 instead. I have an iPhone 5s and wanted both an android and iOS device.

    Purchased one earlier this year, came packed as if new, working fine and with full Apple warranty.

    Purchased an iPad 2 about two/three years ago. Still working.
    You get the same warranty as a new iPad.

    Because they are new, never used. Apple classes a return as a refurbishment, so basically if I bought one and decided I didn't want it after opening it, Apple will take it back and has to sell it as refurbished.

    I bought a refurbished mac book pro in 2009 and it still works perfect. Comes in the original packing and looks brand new.

    If they go out of stock on the refurb store, you can use refurb.me to set up an email alert when they restock. They also have an app.

    It's a brilliant website.

    A new shell and battery are also put in refurb iPads. A small saving can be made if ordering from Apple uk, an iPad mini 2 ordered with parcel motel would be about €13 cheaper.

    Will someone whos using the tablet for social media apps and maybe watching films online notice a difference between the first and second mini? Or is there a fairly big difference in performance?

    Huge difference in the screen resolution and this will obviously reflect on viewing pleasure...

    Just for info there are often iPad refurbs available from both the Tesco and Argos Outlets on ebay. Sometimes there are none and then they sell a stack of them together. Some go for auction but the majority are a Buy it Now price. They all come with a 12 month warranty from Tesco or Argos, not sure if that makes a difference to an Apple 12 month warranty. Anyway I bought a refurb iPad 2 on auction about 18 months ago off Tesco's Outlet. iirc by the time I'd paid their £15 shipping and paid Parcel Motel the total cost was €280. It came with an origional box but no accessories or manual. Apart from that it was brand new, not a scratch on it. I recently sold it for €220 as I'm switching to Android. I can't complain, I got 18 months use of an iPad 2 for €60, 12 of those months of which were in warranty.

    As said big performance and screen diffence.
    If you compare them to the full size iPad specs then;
    iPad mini (1) has same spec as iPad 2,
    iPad mini retina (2) has same spec as iPad air (=5).
    So 1 year diffence in launch date but 3 years in specs.
    The latest iPad mini (3) is basically the same as iPad mini 2 with the addition of touchID (fingerprint scanner), since it's a lot more expensive the mini 2 is actually the best deal. Especially @ refurbished price.

    In another topic someone reported buying one for the price mentioned, I guess Argos is onto this now...
