Blacker it is the further up his channel it is

Acidosis maybe? Silage and meal may be to acidic. Im no expert tho so maybe someone else knows more. Get the vet out in the morning if your not happy with him

    stomach fluke maybe!
    +1

I had 1 with exact same symptoms as op's a few weeks ago

dung sample analysis showed presence of rumen fluke eggs

a course of marbocyl and bimadine got him sorted

Is that what your vet told you to give him?

Talked to vet briefly she said to give him the powders for three days and if no better tomorrow she call out and see for herself they were flat out today reading tb tests so lets see what happens ...thanks for the replies ..

How did he make out? Hope he made it through the night. I'd look to get a vet out to see him ASAP in case you would go to the effort of a blood transfusion. Black stool is a bad sign of bleeding high up in the gut as pointed out above. Given the amount of meal he's on and a growing bull you'd be worried about abomasal ulcers. Could be other things too, hard to know without seeing him but worrying what you're describing.
    Best of luck!

would the presence of a foul smell suggest anything ? just thinking over something my own vet mentioned

    stomach fluke maybe!
i wouldnt give zanil if the scour is dark, it would upset the stomach even more, ring vet again

Bad smell to me would suggest Stomach Fluke, if no bad smell I would be thinking Coccidiosis, but I'd only be guessing - Give the Vet a call.

that concurs with my vet said , body temp normal as well, she tubed about 5 gals of fluids into him and said it vital to do so, also as mentioned didn't dose with zanil for a few days
however this may not be the cause in op's case , important to get early diagnosis

I wouldn't tend to read into a foul smell too much in terms of a specific diagnosis, it's never a good sign but can be associated with different conditions as we've seen here with fluke and ulcers seeming to have caused it in different animals.
