Tax Return No Income

Hi all, hope someone can help. My oh is in employment and paying paye for the the last 4 years. I got my oh to get his revenue online pin so I could back claim rent allowance for him.

When I logged in I discovered he was registered as self employed. He was self employed around 6 years ago and he filled returns and paid taxes during that time.

Since he joined "normal" employment and paying paye he hasn't filed a tax return, even though it would be €0 earned as self employed.

Should he have been filing tax returns as he's still registered for self assessment. If he should have been doing so how do I fix it or is it fine not to do a return if you had no income?

Yes he should have been filed a return. Just file it with his paye information for the last few years and hope his payroll has always been run correctly so that there will be no surcharge exposure.
