Not sure if there's already a thread on this one but have a look at Simon Harris/Fine Gael's Facebook page here regarding the budget.

    https://www.facebook.com/FineGael/photos/a.411453218210.184878.264172043210/10152735370313211/?type=1&theater

Now, look at the 2,750+ likes on this page, check out the names.

Seemingly there are companies such as boostlikes.com where you can buy peoples likes, mostly Indian and Middle Eastern people, in order to make your Facebook page look popular.

Read through the names of the people who 'like' this page and then ask the question, Is taxpayers money being used by FG to pay for this?

Are things that desperate for FG?

Now, look at the 2,500 odd likes on this page, check out the names.

Oh for gods sake no one bought likes.
Is this the height of your political debate.

Hilarious, this is a cut and paste of the first names on the `likes` column. How much are they paying for this con?

Looking at the names, it's pretty clear that somebody bought likes.

To be fair if you examined the likes he received it does seem rather suspious.

I honestly never would have thought that FG were so popular with people of obvious Indian and Middle Eastern origins....

Can the mods please leave this thread active as it is related to the Irish Economy section because the main party in government seem to be up to something here regarding the recent budget?

Maybe some 'activist' brought the like and added them to his Facebook as way of discrediting him.

They were definitely bought. Likes are VERY cheap - we're talking a fiver for a few hundred, or a score for a thousand. Someone who obviously knows very little about how easy it is to tell if likes are bought probably thought it was a good idea, not realizing that all the likes would be coming from places that Fine Gael wouldn't exactly be known.

Someone thought they had a good idea and now looks silly - that's the extent of it.

There's nothing malicious or anything to it, just a cheeky attempt at increasing some numbers that didn't quite work out

Sounds like yet another FG stroke alright and I'd love to know who's funding this, but does anyone with any sense actually take Facebook that seriously?

Given the cost of likes, the change someone found down the back of their sofa more than likely

    I don't know.
This government have a record of using dodgy methods to make the numbers look good.
Jobbridge, TUS etc etc come to mind.

It's a government baby, I've edited that post to reflect that.

Ah yeah, they probably thought it was a good idea to put spin on stuff, but they unlikely paid more than a tenner, so if cost is a concern you needn't worry about that

I'd be more concerned as to why they feel the need to stoop to this kind of crap.
I know now that it's not very expensive to do it, I didn't know that when I opened the thread.
Still, it's a bit suspect though, isn't it?
What kind of mindset would think of it?

Same on here when there's a thread criticizing FG. All the usual suspects come out and defend the party. One of them has 5 posts and has thanked thousands of pro-FG posts.
    Laughable.

Political parties have been marketing for years but through traditional means and in Ireland digital marketing strategy has only been incoroprated as part of a wider marketing strategy. You could argue that paying for ads in newspapers or posters is also 'paying' for vindication.

However, middle eastern residents liking the page or a post on the page will not increase brand awareness in Ireland although make the post in question look more popular- yes possibly. I'm sure the other parties are boosting posts as well.
