Ive had a browse of this thread but can't see the answer so I'm hoping someone might have experience of this, my question is...

If you take the "super collision damage waiver" do i still have to give them my credit card to hold a deposit?

Ive read a few horror stories of charges with credit cards from car rental and i'd rather not give them my card. (I've pre paid for the rental with a debit card)

    anyone experience of this?

Ive hired a car before without credit card by taking out the full insurance cover and paying a petrol deposit up front.
Should still be possible. They are mostly covered however stuff like toll charges and traffic fines might mean they now require credit card regardless.
I wouldnt have an issue giving them the card as long as you have the full insurance.

Many credit cards actually include car rental insurance for the excess you need to pay if the rental company want to make a claim. If you book with a credit card it automatically includes this cover if it is a feature of your credit card contract. That means, e.g., if you have the rental company CDW, which usually has an excess of e.g., €1000 or so before the CDW insurance kicks in, your credit card frequently automatically has insurance for the excess you may need to pay, up to a limit (frequently e.g., 500-1000).

That was usually with American and French card companies like Amex from what I remember when I was working in car rental. They stopped covering in Ireland as was costing them too much so I doubt it still applies but maybe they do it again. Anyway they generally need a credit card alright but if you take full insurance out you will be safe enough can total it then just hand keys back and your covered. Think they put less on card if have full insurance too.
