For the past 4 years my partner has been on JSA and BTEA during the school year. I have worked part time and we have 2 kids. He got his degree in May.

He has just returned to work, we are much worse off.

We had a medical card review in March and our card was downgraded to a GP visit card.

Our family's meds come to €144 every month, we do not get rent allowance / fuel allowance etc.

Can we retain this card for 3 years after the time he returns to employment or can we have our medical card back for the three years,( we missed out on it by €10 per week).

Also I see there is a continued payment of the child increase for people who were long term unemployed:
    General

This scheme provides for continued payment, for up to 13 weeks, of increase for a qualified child (IQC), where payable at the full rate, to certain persons who have been receiving jobseeker's payments ( JA/ JB) for a year or more and who take up full-time employment for at least 4 weeks. The scheme commenced from 13 June 1996.

The scheme was extended from 2 April, 1997 to people who start work, including

Should we apply for this? How do you apply for this?
We may be entitled to €20 per week FIS but this means I wouldn't be able to do any extra hours over xmas and it would not go down well in my place of work.
