    Hi guys,

Just wondering what do ye think of investing in an LED company. I don't have a particular one in mind yet so I am open to ideas. My basic idea behind an investment is that there is a very very high chance of light bulbs being phased out and being replaced by LED's in Europe soon under new regulations which look like they will be passed.

Would the big LED players not benefit massively from this and their stock would fly?

I have, take a look at nanoco (LSE NANO)

    http://nanocotechnologies.com/

They do quantum dots, these are used in tvs and ligting, they are the only ones at the moment with non cadmium based ones. The EU is currently allowing cadmium but that should change.

(This is one of my 'risky' shares)

Dialight in the UK was the stock to be in for this a few years ago. Was a lovely stock winning lots of big contracts for LEDs in supermarkets and traffic light systems in the US. Recent trading statements haven't been as positive with delays to some contracts so it's backed off a bit in the last year or so.
I do think the market for LEDs in general is going to keep growing though, for example the automotive market.

You do not invest in a company based on a vague trend or a macro trend only. For example a flat next to a newly built university has a great future, but what if the flat is on sale at 50 millions and is being eaten by termites, is it still going to go up?

You invest in a company based on future prospects of the company (that includes strategy, management, projects, and macro trends and others) + price you pay for these prospects.
