You could probably disconnect the battery but the fault will probably return straight away and reactivate limp mode. Do you have a check engine light warning?

From my experience limp mode is only restrictive up to 3rd gear or so, basically at low speeds. Should drive normal enough at higher speeds. Ultimately though it'll need a diagnostic check at a garage, one familiar with fords etc.

Ya going to try disconnecting battery . It happens when I fill the tank full up with diesel.
It was a case of a thud or two driving along then it would cut out and go into limp home mode and only drive slow . After you turn off ignition and back on again it would go again normal for a wile . I had it on the diagnostic system twice and only showed fuel system fault . Brought it to diesel injector experts and they said injectors were fine . Fuel filter was filthy when I changed . Think I will remove and clean the fuel tank . Any ideas or experiences welcome
    Thanks

Changed one of the injectors . Going ok for a few days just a bit off beat .
Doing 120 on the motorway and boom limp mode again . Dangerous and frustrating after spending out .

Where abouts are you? Maybe someone will have a obd scanner close to you. Might be able to clear it with that.

Got mechanic to check latest faults .
Showed a different injector now and Egr showed up so going to blank that now see if that will help .

Think I finally resolved the issue . After 6 months of braking down , spluttering and limp mode ,After 6 mechanics and about €1500 spent . Checked every sensor , connection etc . Changed 2? Injectors . Booked in van for all injectors to be changed full tank to be removed and cleaned fuel pump to be checked and fuel lines changed. Was Gona cost like €2000 .but canceled now thank god
Had swapped fuel filter x3 in the last year myself trying to resolve the constant blocked injector issue .
Went to ford and bought the actual correct filter €50 since then van is flying !
Brilliant van when working right loads of power and quick out.
Apparently the Tdci 1.8 common rail injection system is very sensitive and needs a much finer filter work .
    Fingers crossed
Don't buy spurious is the moral of this story

did u do a leak off test on your injectors?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭0e1

ya that was the first thing the mechanic did .they were all fine he said.
about a month later a different mechanic had one of them cleaned or redone
and now he wants to change them all .

also slightly off the cutting out limp mode situation constantly .But in the ice if the front wheels ever lose traction for even a second ,the brakes lock up and the van goes sliding ? this happened on gravel, mud and wet leaves throughout the year but its so dodge on the ice !
It passed DOE no prob but The brakes lock up completly whenevr it slides even for a second .Slid 10 meters easy today at 9am beacuse the brakes would not let off .ABS broken ?

Sorry to interrupt but my missus' car is in limp mode with no check engine light warning.

    Is this usual?

So took all the injectors out and brought them to Cashel . To an injector specialist . All the solenoids are broke . Need 4 new injectors €263 & Vat each ! Apparently this is common in the ford transits and mondeos . Latest update anyway ...
