Hi all (mods, please delete if this isn't allowed)

I have a competency based interview in the morning for a job in underwriting.

I know that competency interviews are scenario based eg tell me about a time you were worked to a strict deadline etc but I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips.

I spent a couple of hours writing out various scenarios tied in with the job spec and my experience to date, last night and will do the same this evening but any pointers that anyone could provide would be great.

    Thanks!

    :)

OK so each competency is trying to measure a particular strength.

So in my opinion you should try and present it something like this...

Introduction - setting the scene, describe the challenge being faced or issue you had to resolve.

What you did - demonstrate how you using the particular strengths in question to resolve the issue.

Outcome - how did things improve as a result of your actions. What changed in a positive way.

Would you do anything differently - if asked this question try and frame your answer by telling them about something you learned through performing the task. The key is to show learning or improvement rather than shining a light on any flaws in your work.

    Hope this helps, good luck.
