Notice period on an internship

Hi, I am in a similar position. I am on a 6 month internship where this is my 11th week, my contract says I have to give 4 weeks notice, I have been offered a teaching position due to start Monday (today being Thursday) so basically 4 days away including the weekend! I have accepted the teaching job starting Monday, the following week is midterm so I can work that week! My question is,
    (1) should I be upfront with my employer and tell them the situation and that I can't work this week coming but can work the following week and that's my notice or
    (2) should I make up some story about a family member being sick, take the week off tell them I'll be in the following week but that this is my notice and I won't be back after that.

Can they make me work my notice? Is what I'm doing illegal if I go with option 2?

    All Advice welcome

    Thanks

Is the internship paid or unpaid? Is the Internship in a teaching role.

Be upfront and tell them you have been offered a weeks teaching. If the company make a fuss about it then its not a very good company to be working for!

Ya the internship is paid! I think I'll just be upfront and tell them the situation! Can they bring me to court or anything If I only work a week of my notice?
