Breaking Red Lights at Samuel Beckett bridge

Just want to say first off that I myself am a weekend cyclist and I am completely appalled by the amount of cyclists who are so bloody careless on the road.

On my walk to work along the Quays in Dublin I have to cross the road at the Samuel Beckett bridge. There is a cycle path that goes from north to south across the Liffey which has its own bike traffic lights which go green directly after the pedestrian lights have gone red.

The majority of cyclist appear to think that once the green pedestrian light appears they have the right to cycle and that pedestrians have to get out of their way. Last week I was clipped by a cyclist who looked at me as I was in the wrong and just kept on cycling. This morning I was almost hit again. The next time it happens I think I will grab him/her and call the garda just to teach the guy/girl a lesson.

Could I ask the garda to pursue a prosecution against them if it occurs again?

Why are a lot of cyclists so stupid and ignorant to the rules of the road?

And just to add we've just had one very lengthy red light thread that was closed earlier this week. If the OP requires a bit more background and the views of other regulars (and indeed non-regulars) in this forum they can have a read through this thread. We have though had enough of this particular topic so there's no need for anyone to start another red light thread for a while (as it will in all likelihood be locked like this one)
