    Hi folks,
Where thinking of getting sheep here with hopes of lambing next year.

What price are in lamb going for and would come with a scan record to prove ratio of scan? If bought in lamb?

Is it too late to buy stock and put the ram in ourselves?

You'd want to be buying within the week to get them with the ram and lambing mid march.
I know there are some lads that sell scanned in lamb ewes, maybe this would be better

    40-50 depends on price.

If you could afford it and seeing as you don't have lambing experience, if you could get hoggets and a ram yourself. A cheaper option would be ewe lambs and buy a ram. You could get ewe lambs now for €100 each vs hoggets ( not sure how much hoggets are making , but more expensive. Alternatively buy ewe lambs scanned in lamb in spring , probably €150 each ( guessing spring price ). Buying older sheep is a gamble as you don't know why their being sold. Ewe lambs will be more work then hoggets and won't give you as many lambs in first year but as said are cheaper to buy.

I bought 6 PB Llyen in lamb 2/3 year olds scanned with twins last Feb. They were a bit pricey at €280 but I did not lose any lambs. Had to cull one ewe this September but the other 5 are running with the Ram now. My advice would be that if you are going this route, make sure you get to pick your own out of a big lot.

We're selling lambs at the moment that were born in April, so you're not late yet.
It's a long expensive winter after for lambs born in January, especially if it's a wet spring
